It’s time to start landing job interviews! Take a look at the following Interview Preparation and Tips from Refactor Talent’s Talent Partner, Duncan Foster.

  • Focus on your strengths and moments you’ve learnt the most from in your journey so far: Be ready to speak about all the skills and experience you have gained in your most recent roles and how they make you a stronger candidate. Reframe any negative experiences in the past into a positive way by emphasizing what you learned and how it has helped you grow.
  • Explain the specific impact you’ve had on previous businesses: Employers want to know how you have contributed to previous roles. Prepare specific examples and metrics of how you’ve made a positive impact on the businesses you have worked for.
  • Prepare questions about company culture, day-to-day, metrics, etc.: Remember this is a two-way conversation – asking questions during an interview shows that you are interested in the company and the role. Prepare at least three thoughtful questions about the company culture, day-to-day responsibilities, and metrics for success. Refactor Talent Pro Tip – rank your questions in order of importance to you during your preparation for the meeting to ensure you walk out knowing more about what is most important to you.
  • Dress for success: Dress appropriately for the interview, whether it is in-person or virtual. Dressing professionally shows that you take the interview seriously and are committed to making a good impression. Check in with your Refactor Talent recruiter about expectations based upon our inside knowledge of the client’s company culture.
  • Consider your LinkedIn profile your personal brand: Hiring managers often have both your resume and LinkedIn profile ready to discuss and circulated amongst the interviewers. Optimizing your LinkedIn profile can make a significant difference in your job search.
